My name is Tyler Quinlan, I’m 17 years old, and most importantly I’m a 2011-2012 Yes Abroad Thailand Finalist, meaning I will be spending my senior year of high school abroad in Thailand. I speak English, Cantonese, Mandarin, and some Spanish. I hope to master Chinese, Arabic, Thai, Korean, Japanese, Spanish, Twi, and Russian. I live in the beautiful city of San Francisco, the only hang up of going to Thailand is leaving the Bay Area. Some random facts about me is that I fly, play basketball, go to school 7 days a week, am hugely political, and love to travel. Thanks for reading and leave me a comment please!
About YES Abroad (Youth Exchange and Study)
The Yes Abroad program is a year-long full scholarship to study in 1 of 9 countries with significant muslim populations. (Ghana, Mali*, Egypt**, Oman, Turkey, Thailand, India, Malaysia, Indonesia) The goal of the Yes Abroad program is to foster intercultural understanding and respect for Islam. After you send in an application, a few weeks later, you are notified if you have made the semi final cuts. If you have, you are flown out to Denver or Houston for an In Person Selection Event were you are interviewed and graded around the clock for 3 days. A few weeks later, you are notified if you were accepted and which country you will be hosted in! Easy as that, so I expect all of you to apply. The only requirements are that you be in high school and between the ages of 15 and 18 1/2. Each country has specific age requirements. ( I am an old junior and only made the age reqs for 2)
*Mali is only a semester long
**Egypt was canceled this year (2011) because of the protest and unrest, even though I was assured by Richard G. that it was completely safe.)
